What is the NFA?
The National Firearms Act of 1934 regulates suppressors, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, machine guns, and destructive devices. Ownership requires federal registration and a $200 tax stamp.
How long does an NFA transfer take?
Current ATF processing times for Form 4 average 90-120 days. eForms can sometimes process faster. We will keep you updated throughout.
Do I need an NFA Trust?
You can register NFA items as an individual or through an NFA gun trust. A trust allows multiple trustees to access the item. We recommend consulting an attorney.
Is the $200 tax stamp per item?
Yes. Each NFA item requires its own $200 tax stamp (or $5 for AOW items). The tax is paid when you submit your Form 4.
Can I use my suppressor while paperwork is pending?
No. You cannot take possession of or use your NFA item until the approved Form 4 is returned by the ATF.
